CORPUS CHRISTI — James Hinojosa was found guilty by a jury for aggravated kidnapping Wednesday morning.
As the punishment phase started, prosecutors called in CCPD gang detectives to testify. Chief Martin Deleon testified about Hinojosa’s involvement with the Mexican mafia. Deleon told the jury about the tattoos that Hinojosa has covering his body that indicate he’s affiliated with one if not several local gangs.
Hinojosa’s prior convictions with drug possession and counterfeit money have led gang investigators to suspect him as a member of the Mexican mafia.
Hinojosa testified that his tattoos do not correlate to any gang affiliations. He swore before the court and said that he has a lot of body art simply because he likes tattoos. Hinojosa also told the jury that he is sorry for wasting their time with his poor choices.
“I’m sorry, I don’t want to spend life in prison over 150 dollar altercation with Mr. Trevino,” Hinojosa said.
However, the jury still found him guilty of his latest charge of aggravated kidnapping and will access punishment this afternoon.
