HIDALGO – A woman was arrested on Monday at the Hidalgo International Bridge after she attempted to smuggle a child into the United States, officials said.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the port of entry said the 19-year-old Pharr resident walked up to the inspection station with an 11-month-old girl. The woman, a U.S. citizen, was sent to a secondary inspection where officers discovered the child is a Colombian citizen with no documentation to enter or live in the United States.
Officers arrested the woman on charges of violating U.S. immigration laws. The child was placed under the care of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Refugee Resettlement.
