U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers, working at the Rio Grande City Port of Entry, discovered $500,000 worth of cocaine on Thursday.
The officers stopped a truck driven by a 51-year-old Mexican national as he was trying to cross into the U.S.
They found six packages of cocaine weighing 16 pounds concealed within the vehicle.
The driver was taken into custody by Homeland Security agents for further investigation.
“This was an excellent interception of hard narcotics made by our officers,” said Severiano Solis, Port Director, Rio Grande City. “The ability to utilize all available resources and the outstanding commitment to the CBP mission by our officers has enabled us to keep our communities safe from these harmful drugs.”
