According to Customs and Border Protection, officers referred Eric Acosta, 36, and his two female passengers for a secondary inspection of his Jeep Wrangler.
After a CBP Border Patrol canine alerted to the presence of drugs, an X-ray of the battery revealed an unusual image. Upon searching the battery, officers removed six packages of heroin that had an estimated street value of nearly $186,000.
The drugs and Jeep Wrangler were processed for seizure. Acosta was arrested and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, while the passengers were released.
