CBP Officers At Rainbow Bridge ArrestMan Previously Deported From U.S.

Niagara Falls, N.Y. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Field Operations announced the arrest of a Nigerian citizen who was previously deported from the United States.

On March 14, CBP officers working at the Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls, N.Y. encountered 50-year-old Hakeem Akinyosoye, a Nigerian citizen from Brampton, Ontario Canada. Akinyosoye presented a valid Canadian passport bearing the name Kunle Ali and was traveling to the Buffalo Niagara International Airport on this date to drop off a friend. Subject was referred for a secondary inspection.

During the secondary inspection it was discovered that Akinyosoye was traveling under an assumed identity and had a lengthy criminal record to include multiple charges of Fraud in Canada and the United States. Further investigation revealed that Akinyosoye had previously been ordered removed from the United States by an Immigration Judge in September of 1993 and was physically deported from the United States back to his home country of Nigeria in March of 1994 from JFK International Airport.

Akinyosoye was subsequently arrested by CBP and arraigned in federal court on March 19, charged with reentry after removal.
